UMW Baseball Drops Saturday Twinbill at Emory

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a pair of games at Emory University on Saturday, falling in the opener, 11-1, and in the second, 16-0. UMW slips to 3-7 on the season.

In the opener, Emory jumped ahead with three runs in the third before UMW answered with one in the fourth. Garrett Lyons doubled to lead off, and went to third on a groundout. Bryce Runey's RBI groundout plated Lyons for UMW's lone score. Emory rallied for eight runs in the fifth for the 11-1 win.

Nick Ciufredda and Christian Hague also added singles for UMW. Zach Adams took the loss for the Eagles, allowing two earned runs in four innings on seven hits, with three walks and one strikeout.

In the second game, Emory plated one run in the first, two in the second, and three in the third to build a 6-0 lead. The hosts added five runs in the sixth, four in the seventh, and one in the eighth.

The Eagles were led by Bryce Runey and Parker Wilburn, who each had a double. Chris LeVere took the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits in two innings, with six walks and one strikeout.

UMW will face Alfred State on Sunday in Lexington, S.C. at 1 p.m.
