Athletes of the Week for January 2, 2019

Women’s Basketball

Hillary Hellmann — Case Western Reserve University  —  Lakeside Park, KY (Notre Dame Academy)

Senior guard/forward Hillary Hellman recorded double-doubles in back-to-back games to lead Case Western Reserve University to a 2-0 mark at the 2018 HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami Shores, Florida. She averaged 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Hellmann totaled 13 points and 12 boards in the Spartans’ 71-59 victory over Thiel College and followed that with a season-high 30 points and 13 rebounds in a 102-99 overtime win over Eastern University.

Ashley Oldshue — Emory University  —  Glenview, IL (Glenbrook South)

Senior center Ashley Oldshue averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game to help lead Emory University to two wins. She matched her career-high with 28 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and tied the program single-game record with six blocked shots in a 60-49 Eagles’ victory over Rhodes College. Oldshue, who shot 72.0 percent from the field (18-for-25) in the two games, finished with 16 points and five rebounds in a 68-52 win over Maryville College.

Men’s Basketball

Ignas Masiulionis — Case Western Reserve University  —  Vilnius, Lithuania (Culver Academies, IN)

Case Western Reserve University sophomore guard Ignas Masiulionis averaged 21.0 points and 4.5 rebounds as the Spartans finished 1-1 at the 2018 HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout in Miami Shores, Florida. He shot 40.0 percent (10-of-25) from three-point range and 43.8 percent (14-for-32) overall. Masiulionis scored a career-high 26 points in the Spartans’ 88-69 loss to 13th-ranked State University of New York at Plattsburgh.

Hank Hunter — Washington University  —  Parkland, FL (St. Thomas Aquinas)

Washington University junior center Hank Hunter averaged 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as the Bears split a pair of games. He recorded his fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 20 points and 13 boards in a 92-80 Bears’ win at Westminster College (MO) on Monday. He shot 59.1 percent from the field (13-for-22).

Wrestling

Steven Bonsall — University of Chicago  —  Westfield, NJ (Newark Academy)

University of Chicago junior Steve Bonsall pinned all four of his opponents at 157 pounds as the Maroons posted a 3-1 record over the winter break. His falls led the Maroons to wins over Manchester University, Wabash College, and Mount St. Joseph University. Bonsall recorded a pin in 5:14 in the Maroons’ loss to North Central College.
