Athletes of the Week for January 7, 2019

Women’s Basketball

Madeline Homoly — Washington University  —  Kansas City, MO (Bishop Miege)

Washington University senior forward Madeline Homoly scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field to lead the Bears to an 85-66 road win over eighth-ranked University of Chicago. She added five rebounds, three assists, and three steals as the Bears recorded their first win over a nationally ranked team this season and snapped a two-game losing streak against the Maroons.

Men’s Basketball

Seth Henry — Carnegie Mellon University  —  Fulton, MD (Reservoir)

Senior Seth Henry averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 84.2 percent from the floor (16-for-19) in a 2-0 week for Carnegie Mellon University. He hit 10 of 13 field goals and totaled 25 points and 13 boards as the Tartans opened UAA play with an 85-71 home win over Case Western Reserve University.

Ryan Clamage — University of Rochester  —  Lake Forest, IL (Lake Forest Academy)

Senior guard Ryan Clamage averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in a pair of University of Rochester victories. He hit seven of 11 field goals, connecting on three 3-pointers, to finish with 22 points, while contributing seven rebounds and four assists in an 87-76 win over Emory University to begin UAA play. Clamage shot 60.0 percent from the floor (12-of-20) in two games.

Women’s Fencing

Sarah Prilutsky — NYU  —  Princeton, NJ (Princeton Day)

NYU first-year fencer Sarah Prilutsky finished 34th of 177 competitors at the North America Cup (NAC) in the Junior Women’s Foil event in Charlotte, North Carolina. She won all five of her bouts in pool play to earn a bye into the direct elimination. Prilutsky earned another victory before falling in the round of 32.

Men’s Fencing

Mickey Bak — NYU  —  Linden, NJ (Academy for Information Technology)
Zachary Schindler — NYU  —  Cambridge, MA (Buckingham Browne & Nichols)
Bryan Moise — NYU  —  Spring Valley, NY (Paramus Catholic, NJ)

The NYU sabre team of senior Mickey Bak, sophomore Zachary Schindler, and freshman Bryan Moise placed third of 13 teams at the North America Cup (NAC) championship in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team won two matches to advance to the semifinals of the Senior Team Men’s Saber and, after falling in that round, bounced back to win the third-place bout.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

Emma Nicklas-Morris — Carnegie Mellon University  —  Winston-Salem, NC (RJ Reynolds)

Carnegie Mellon University junior Emma Nicklas-Morris placed third and 10th in events at the Florida International University Spring Invitational that was comprised of teams from all three NCAA divisions. She placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.28) and 10th in the 100-yard individual medley (1:03.02) to lead the Tartans to a fourth-place finish in the 12-team event.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

Winston Chu — Carnegie Mellon University  —  Warren, NJ (Saint Peter’s Prep)

Carnegie Mellon senior Winston Chu led the Tartans to the team title at the Florida International University Spring Invitational that was comprised of teams from all three NCAA divisions. He captured the 50-yard breaststroke (27.20 seconds) and 100-yard breaststroke (59.56 seconds). He swam the 50 breast four times in a four-round elimination format.

Wrestling

Cole Riemer — University of Chicago  —  Palatine, IL (Fremd)

Freshman Cole Riemer earned a 3-0 record, including a win over the top-ranked 149-pounder in NCAA Division III, at the 2019 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals on Friday. He earned major decisions over opponents from Centenary University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute of Technology. Riemer defeated his top-ranked opponent from Augsburg University 7-5, to improve to 15-4 this season.

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
