Athletes of the Week for April 10, 2023

Baseball

Jack Halloran  —  Emory University  —  Westhampton Beach, NY (Westhampton Beach)

Emory University sophomore infielder Jack Halloran batted .722 (13-for-18) with 15 runs scored, three doubles, five home runs, and 19 runs batted in while establishing four program records in the Eagles’ four-game sweep of host Brandeis University. He recorded at least three hits in three of four games, including hitting 5-for-5 with three home runs, five runs scored, and nine RBI in a 31-4 win in the first game of a doubleheader sweep. With his eight extra-base hits, Halloran registered a 1.722 slugging percentage.

Aaron Mishoulam  —  Emory University  —  Oak Park, IL (Oak Park and River Forest)

Emory University senior right-handed pitcher Aaron Mishoulam won his sixth consecutive decision as the Eagles opened a four-game sweep of host Brandeis University with a 12-1 win on Friday. He scattered six hits over six innings, walking one and striking out a career-high 11 batters.

Women’s Golf

Cindy Wang  —  Emory University  —  San Jose, CA (BASIS Independent Silicon Valley)

First-year golfer Cindy Wang earned all-tournament honors at the Max and Susan Stith Invitational, helping lead top-ranked Emory University to the team title. She posted rounds of 75 and 72 for a runner-up individual finish.

Softball

Elizabeth Berry  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Plymouth, MN (Maple Grove)

Case Western Reserve University first-year infielder Elizabeth Berry batted .692 (9-for-13) with three runs scored in the Spartans’ four-game sweep of visiting Brandeis University. She recorded multiple hits in three games and at least one hit in each contest. Berry added four assists and two putouts at third base.

Kylie Hosey  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Medina, OH (Medina)

Case Western Reserve University sophomore pitcher Kylie Hosey earned a win and a save without yielding a run in nine innings in three appearances in the Spartans’ four-game sweep of visiting Brandeis University. She earned the save in the series opener, throwing three scoreless innings of one-hit ball and striking out five. Hosey tossed four shutout innings in a 10-0, five-inning win on Saturday, striking out five.

Jordan Rossi  —  Washington University  —  Stamford, CT (Acad. of Info. Technology & Engineering)

Washington University sophomore pitcher Jordan Rossi posted a 3-0 mark and 0.67 earned run average in three complete games. She recorded a pair of wins over visiting Carnegie Mellon University, tossing a three-hitter in a 2-1 win on Saturday, and a three-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory on Sunday.

Women’s Tennis

Hannah Kassaie  —  Case Western Reserve University —  Cleveland, OH (Mayfield)

Sophomore Hannah Kassaie won both her matches to lead Case Western Reserve University to its first win over UAA rival Carnegie Mellon University in program history, 5-4 on Saturday. She teamed with Lily McCloskey for a thrilling 8-7 (7-5) win over Danna Taylor and Crystal Zhou at No. 1 doubles. Kassaie earned the Spartans’ fourth point with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win over Taylor at first singles.

Men’s Tennis

Michael Sutanto  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Woodinville, WA (Woodinville)

Case Western Reserve University senior Michael Sutanto posted a combined 5-0 record in singles and doubles in three wins. He teamed with Sahil Dayal for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and with Vishwa Aduru for an 8-3 victory over North Central College. Sutanto dropped just seven games in four sets in singles against North Central (No. 2) and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (No. 3) after earning a three-set win over UW-Eau Claire at No. 3.

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field

Annika Urban  — Emory University  —  Pittsburgh, PA (Fox Chapel)

Senior Annika Urban of Emory University captured the 1,500-meter run at the Lee Flames Invitational in Cleveland, Tennessee on Friday. She crossed the finish line in a program-record time of 4:26.17, which is the fastest time in the event in NCAA Division III this season.

Liz Barre  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Ithaca, NY (Taft)

Senior Liz Barre broke her own Carnegie Mellon University record in the heptathlon at the Susquehanna University Multi on Thursday and Friday. She added two program records in winning the high jump (1.70 meters) and long jump (5.53 meters) en route to her total of 5,017 points, which ranks second in NCAA Division III this season.

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field

Andrew McGovern  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Lexington, MA (Lexington)

Junior Andrew McGovern of Carnegie Mellon University recorded the fastest 400-meter hurdles time in NCAA Division III this season at the Westminster College Invitational on Saturday. He won the event in 52.83 seconds and also ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay that finished in 3:20.91.

Thomas Rich  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Rochester, NY (Brighton)

Junior Thomas Rich broke his own Carnegie Mellon University record in the decathlon at the Susquehanna University Multi on Thursday and Friday. He won the pole vault, long jump, and shot put with career-best marks and recorded the top NCAA Division III score of 6,556 points in winning the decathlon.

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
