Athletes of the Week for April 15, 2019

Baseball

Bubby Terp — Emory University  —  Temple Terrace, FL (King)

Senior Bubby Terp batted .350 (7-for-20) and drove in 11 runs to help lead Emory University to a 4-1 week, including taking three of four from UAA rival Case Western Reserve University. He drove in multiple runs in three games, finishing with seven RBI in the Eagles’ three victories over the Spartans. Terp added four runs scored, two doubles, and two walks.

Jack Brodsky — Emory University  —  Woodcliff Lake, NJ (Pascack Hills)

Freshman hurler Jack Brodsky posted a 2-0 record and did not yield a run in two appearances to lead Emory University past Case Western Reserve University in both contests. He retired all four batters he faced, fanning two, in an 8-7 win in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday, and then struck out five in 3.1 innings to again earn the victory as the Eagles topped the Spartans, 10-6, on Saturday.

Women’s Golf

Chloe DiPetrillo — Washington University  —  Dover, MA (Buckingham Browne & Nichols School)

Washington University senior Chloe DiPetrillo finished the rain-shortened Illinois Wesleyan University Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling with a six-over par 78 to tie for 18th place. She totaled two birdies and added nine pars in 18 holes.

Men’s Golf

Declan Hickton — University of Rochester  —  Pittsburgh, PA (Sewickley Academy)

Sophomore Declan Hickton of University of Rochester tied for first place in a 39-player field at the Fred Kravetz Invitational. He shot rounds of 74 and 76, leading the field with eight birdies over the par-72 Irondequoit Country Club. The Yellowjackets placed second of six teams.

Softball

Claire Stefanelli — NYU  —  Lavallette, NJ (St. John Vianney)

Senior leftfielder Claire Stefanelli recorded a pair of three-hit games as NYU split its weekend series at Emory University. She batted .643 (9-for-14) with three runs batted in, an on-base percentage of .688 and a .714 slugging percentage.

 

Mikaela Arredondo — Washington University  —  Orland Park, IL (Carl Sandburg)

Junior outfielder Mikaela Arredondo hit .500 (7-for-14) with six runs batted in as Washington University won three of four games at Carnegie Mellon University. She hit safely in all four games, including a
3-for-4 performance with three RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base in a 7-1 victory in the final game of the series. Arredondo added a double and a triple, and finished with a .714 slugging percentage.

Sydney Goldman — Brandeis University  —  Sherman Oaks, CA (Notre Dame)

First-year pitcher Sydney Goldman posted a 2-0 record and 0.50 earned run average as Brandeis University took three of four games from Case Western Reserve University to maintain first place in the UAA. She came within one strike of a no-hitter, walking one and striking out a season-high 10 batters in a 5-0 Judges’ victory in the second game of a doubleheader split on Friday. Goldman returned the following day, throwing a six-hitter, allowing one earned run, in a 3-2 Judges’ win over the Spartans.

Holly Stoner — Washington University  —  La Cañada, CA (La Cañada)

First-year pitcher Holly Stoner posted a 2-0 record and did not allow an earned run in 11.2 innings in a pair of wins at Carnegie Mellon University. She threw 4.2 innings of scoreless relief in the Bears’ 7-3 win in the second game of a doubleheader sweep on Friday. On Saturday, Stoner tossed the first complete game of her career, allowing five hits and one unearned run without a walk, and striking out eight in a 7-1 victory.

Women’s Tennis

Olivia Leavitt — Brandeis University  —  Falmouth, ME (Falmouth)

In her final collegiate home match, Olivia Leavitt picked up two wins to lead 14th-ranked Brandeis University to a 5-4 win at sixth-ranked Bowdoin College. She teamed with sophomore Lauren Bertsch for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles and secured the match-tying point at 4-4 with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) win at second singles. The win was the first for the Judges over the Polar Bears.

Men’s Tennis

Jeremy Yuan — University of Chicago  —  Johns Creek, GA (Northview)

Sophomore Jeremy Yuan rallied from a 4-1 third-set deficit to give second-ranked University of Chicago a 5-4 win over sixth-ranked Washington University. He finished the weekend with two singles wins and split two doubles matches with senior Max Liu, who substituted for Yuan’s regular partner. Yuan earned a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win at second singles and posted a win with Liu in the Maroons’ 9-0 blanking of 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve University.

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field

Dani Bland  — Emory University  —  Mountville, PA (Hempfield)

Emory University senior Dani Bland won the 200-meter dash with a season-best time as the Eagles took the team title at the Berry College Field Day Invitational. Her time of 24.60 seconds ranks second in NCAA Division III. Bland ran the second leg of the Eagles’ 400-meter relay runner-up squad (48.28 seconds) and recorded a personal record in the javelin (28.09 meters).

Cassandra Laios  — Case Western Reserve University  —  Worthington, OH (Thomas Worthington)

Case Western Reserve University graduate student Cassandra Laios claimed All-Ohio honors in three events at the All-Ohio championships in Delaware, Ohio. Her winning toss of 55.05 meters in the hammer throw broke her previous program record and stands as the top distance in NCAA Division III this season. Laios placed second in the shot put (13.29 meters) and discus (42.08 meters).

 

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field

Isaac Mills  — Carnegie Mellon University  —  Fairfax, VA (Oakton)

Carnegie Mellon University senior Isaac Mills improved his season-best 800-meter time at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic. His time of 1:52.98 ranks fifth in NCAA Division III this season.

Bram Miller  — Carnegie Mellon University  —  Colgate, WI (Kettle Moraine Lutheran)

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Bram Miller moved his top shot put distance of the season to fifth place in NCAA Division III at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic. He recorded a career-best toss of 16.50 meters in the shot put and added a distance of 48.90 meters in the discus.

 

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
