Athletes of the Week for April 24, 2023

Baseball

Tyler McLoughlin  —  Emory University  —  Milton, GA (Milton)

Emory University junior Tyler McLoughlin batted .692 (9-for-13) with nine runs scored and two home runs as the Eagles swept Washington University in a four-game series to clinch the UAA title. He recorded at least two hits in each game and went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and three runs scored in an 11-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

Kyle Gearding  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Cincinnati, OH (Anderson)

Case Western Reserve University sophomore Kyle Gearding threw the first complete game shutout of his career in a seven-inning 10-0 Spartans’ victory over Brandeis University on Saturday. He allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Women’s Golf

Athena Nguyen  —  Washington University  —  San Jose, CA (Valley Christian)

First-year golfer Athena Nguyen placed second individually to help lead Washington University to the team title at the Millikin University Take Back the Night Challenge. She shot rounds of 72 and 73 for a two-day total of 145.

Men’s Golf

Henry Scavone  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Birmingham, MI (Birmingham Seaholm)

Graduate student Henry Scavone carded the lowest round in Carnegie Mellon program history to help lead the Tartans to the team title at the Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate. He shot a seven-under par 63 in the final round to tie for first place with a 141 total and then claimed the individual title with a 25-foot birdie putt on the seventh playoff hole.

Jackson Klutznick  —  Emory University  —  Denver, CO (Kent Denver)

Junior Jason Klutznick earned individual medalist honors at the Emory University Spring Invitational, leading the Eagles to their sixth tournament win of the season. He carded a three-round score of 217 (73-73-71) to win the tournament, led by his three-under par total on par-4 holes.

Softball

Ashley Kennedy  —  Washington University  —  Tinley Park, IL (Tinley Park)

Washington University junior Ashley Kennedy batted .538 (7-for-13) with three runs scored and three runs batted in during a four-game series at Brandeis University. She finished 6-for-7 with two runs scored, two doubles, and two RBI in Saturday’s doubleheader.

Lexi Miskey  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Pittsford, NY (Pittsford Mendon)

Case Western Reserve University sophomore pitcher Lexi Miskey won two games and saved another as the seventh-ranked Spartans swept host NYU in a four-game series. She tossed a three-hit complete game shutout in the series’ first game, a 5-0 win that clinched the UAA title for the Spartans. In three appearances, Miskey allowed one run and six hits in 15 innings, striking out 17.

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
