Athletes of the Week for April 29, 2019

Baseball

Colman Hendershot — NYU  —  Lubbock, TX (Coronado)

Senior first baseman Colman Hendershot batted .368 (7-for-19) with a home run and seven runs batted in to help lead NYU to a 4-1 week, including three wins over Emory University. He hit safely in all five games and recorded a pair of multi-hit games against the Eagles. Hendershot drove in at least one run in every game.

Nick Denove — Case Western Reserve University  —  Naples, FL (Barron Collier)

Freshman left-handed pitcher Nick Denove tossed his second complete-game shutout of the season to lead Case Western Reserve University to a 6-0 win over Brandeis University on Saturday. He allowed five singles, did not walk a batter, and struck out six.

Ford Ladd — NYU  —  Longmont, CO (Niwot)

Junior pitcher Ford Ladd did not allow an earned run in 13 innings, posting a 2-0 record in two starts in NYU wins over Rutgers University-Newark and Emory University. The junior gave up one unearned run in the first inning and did not allow another Eagle to reach second base in a 2-1 Violets’ win.

Women’s Golf

Jessica Wu — NYU  —  Langley, BC, CAN (Mountain Secondary School)

NYU sophomore Jessica Wu shot a two-round score of 155 (80-75) to place 11th of 55 golfers at the Jack Leaman Invitational hosted by Amherst College. She helped lead the Violets to a third-place finish.

Men’s Golf

Jason Li — Carnegie Mellon University  —  Sewickley, PA (Sewickley Academy)

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Jason Li tied the program’s single-round record with a four-under par 67 in the final round of the Strimer Memorial Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. His two-round score of 140 earned him a runner-up finish and tied his career-best mark for 36 holes.

Softball

Sami Feller — Emory University  —  Coral Springs, FL (Stoneman Douglas)

Emory University junior outfielder Sami Feller batted .615 (8-for-13) with seven runs scored and six runs batted in as the Eagles swept a four-game series at Brandeis University to capture the UAA title. She recorded a double, home run, and a .923 slugging percentage. Feller hit safely in all four games, running her hitting streak to nine, and drove in at least one run in each contest.

Toko Miller — Emory University  —  Prescott, AZ (Prescott)

Emory University senior Toko Miller picked up two wins in a four-game sweep at Brandeis University that secured the UAA title for the Eagles. She pitched all five innings in a series-opening 12-3 triumph and then yielded one hit in three innings of relief in the Eagles’ 3-2 title-clinching victory on Sunday.

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
