ADA — The Ohio Northern volleyball team wrapped up its regular season and celebrated Senior Day with a 5-set victory over Marietta and a 4-set loss to Chicago (Ill.) on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears are now 16-8 overall and finish in a three-way tie for second place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 6-3 record.
Marietta falls to 18-7, 6-3 and Chicago improves to 16-11. Chicago also defeated Marietta in four sets between the two ONU matches to complete the tri-match.
Sophomore Erin Wagner (Massillon/Perry) had 13 kills, junior Kaidie Carstensen (Raymond/Fairbanks) added 12 kills and junior Ava Ehlinger (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) had 10 kills as Northern defeated Marietta 22-25, 25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 15-9 in the first match of the afternoon.
Sophomore Grace Conrad (Somerset/Sheridan) had 35 assists and 18 digs for Ohio Northern.
The Polar Bears hit .194 with 62 kills and 29 errors on 170 attempts, while the Pioneers hit .165 with 54 kills and 27 errors on 164 attacks.
Northern finished the day with a tight 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 25-21 setback to Chicago.
Wagner had 16 kills and Ehlinger and sophomore Lauren James (Farmington Hills, Mich.) had 12 kills each for ONU.
Northern hit .199 with 59 kills and 23 errors on 181 attacks and the Maroons hit .230 with 66 kills and 24 errors on 183 attempts.
The Polar Bears will enter next week's OAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed Muskingum in the first round on Tuesday at 7 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
