Women's volleyball falls in three sets against Washington-St. Louis

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's volleyball team faced WashU for the second time in less than two weeks and dropped a 25-23, 25-16, 25-12 decision to the Bears on Friday night in H.J. Long Gymnasium.

It appeared that Greenville had control in the first set and looked to be on route to a win in set number one when they took a 22-19 lead with three straight points late in the set. However, WashU called a timeout and rattled off six of the final seven points giving them the 25-23 win in the set and the confidence to overcome GU's home court advantage.

The Panthers struggled to score points the rest of the match, dropping a 25-16 second set and 25-12 final set.

Overall, Greenville's attack was challenged all night, gathering only 24 kills and 24 errors on 123 attacks to finish with a hitting percentage of zero.

Jasmin Smith had six kills for GU, and Anna Finch followed with five kills.

The Panthers were held without a block, an abnormality for a team generally very strong on the defensive side of the net.

In the back row, Chasity Hill led Greenville with 10 digs.

The Panthers (18-6) travel to Jacksonville, Ill., on Monday for a match against Illinois College at 7 p.m.
