Women's Tennis Opens UAA Championship with 5-0 Win over Brandeis

The Emory University women's tennis team won in resounding style over Brandeis University in the first round of the 2022 University Athletic Association Championships at the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The Eagles, who entered the tournament seeded second, defeated the No. 7 seeded Judges 5-0 to earn a spot in tomorrow's semifinal match at 12:30 PM where they will take on third seeded Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans earned their spot by virtue of a 5-1 victory over No. 6 NYU.

Emory began the morning winning all three doubles matches and only giving up a combined six games between the three. Senior Christina Watson and sophomore Ana Cristina Perez were the first to finish, dominating at No.1 doubles with an 8-0 shutout. The No. 2 doubles team of senior Lauren Yoon and freshman Eliza McPherron followed them up with a solid 8-3 win. Finally, senior Emma Cartledge and junior Stephanie Shulman pulled out a convincing 8-3 victory at the No. 3 spot to complete the sweep.

In singles play, freshman Arya Dudipala picked up her first win of the spring, taking down Brandeis' Jiayi Zhang at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-1. Watson closed out the match for the Eagles making quick work of her opponent 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles slot.

At the conclusion of the match Emory held leads on two additional courts with Shulman leading 6-2, 5-4 at the No. 4 spot and McPherron up 6-2, 0-1 at No. 2 singles.
