The Emory University men's basketball team handily defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater 91-70 in its first game of the Emory Holiday Classic Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta.

The holiday break didn't slow down senior Matthew Schner as he picked up right where he left off, dropping a cool 30 points on 14 of 19 shooting which tied his career high for points in a game. Coming off the bench, senior Romin Williams had one of his better games of the season going for 18 points including three 3-pointers and a perfect day from the charity stripe. Senior Nick Stuck was a maestro on the court as he led the team with eight assists to just three turnovers.

As a unit, the Eagles (5-3) shot 50.7% from the floor marking their best single game percentage of the season. Emory's defensive pressure proved to be too much for the Warhawks as they were held to a measly 38% from the floor and forced into 10 turnovers. The Eagles had another dominant day in the paint as they outscored the Warhawks, 52-34.

Despite the UW-Whitewater's best efforts, Emory put the game out of reach early as they went into halftime holding a 52-27 lead. Towards the end of the first half with the game still within reach for the Warhawks, the Eagles went on a 15-2 run to give themselves a 24-point cushion. Schner started and ended the run for the Eagles scoring the first six points and the final five points of the burst for the Eagles thanks to some acrobatics and gritty hustle under the basket. Emory maintained its end of the half momentum, shifting into cruise control for the remainder of the game, never letting the Warhawks get within 21 points.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow at 4:00 PM as they close out the Emory Holiday Classic against regional opponent Birmingham-Southern. The Panthers fell to LaGrange College, 100-89, in the opener Wednesday afternoon.
