CLEVELAND — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team fell 2-1 to #17 Case Western Reserve in a battle of previously unbeaten teams on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field.
The Polar Bears move to 3-1-2 on the season while the Spartans improve to 5-0-0.
ONU got on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal from sophomore Alexa Clampitt (Sterling Heights, Mich./Utica Academy for International Studies) in the 19th minute.
The Spartans answered in the 26th minute with a goal from Mackenzie Mueller that was assisted by Camryn Hartman.
The teams were deadlocked at 1-all going into halftime, and the score remained tied for much of the second half.
Samantha Cramin scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for CWRU in the 75th minute on an assist from Andrea Silva.
The Polar Bears managed just one shot the rest of the way, as an attempt from junior Bri Straus (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) was saved by CWRU goalkeeper Maggie Storti.
Senior goalkeeper Becky Moss (Lebanon/Mount Notre Dame) recorded six saves in the game for ONU.
The Spartans out-shot Northern 11-10 and finished with a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears return to action on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. game at Denison.
