Judges win third straight, 2-0, at Clark

Jessica Herman '23 - two goals vs. Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. – Brandeis University women's soccer rookie Jessica Herman (Plantation, Fla./NSU University School) scored her first two collegiate goals to provide all the offense the Judges would need in a 2-0 road victory over Clark University. The win is Brandeis's third-straight as they improve to 3-1 on the season. The Cougars suffered their first loss as they also sit at 3-1.

The first half was a slow one, with just five shots take, three for Brandeis to two for Clark. The Judges had the only two attempts on frame in the first 45 minutes, but Clark's Morgan Small made to stops to keep the match scoreless.

In the second half, the offenses opened up, with Brandeis outshooting Clark, 10-6. Herman finally broke through in the 62nd minute, unleashing a wicked shot from the right of the box that dove just under the crossbar for her first career goal. Senior Katie Hayes (Eau Claire, Wisc./Regis H.S.) got the assist.

Herman doubled the score 16 minutes later in the 78th minute. She took a long throw-in and dribbled 10 yards to the top of the box before blasting a similar goal from the left side, firing the ball under the crossbar and over a leaping Small.

With the two goals, Herman has notched a point in the last three games, all Brandeis wins. It also marks the Judges' third-straight game with a multi-goal scorer. Herman nearly made it a hat trick but was denied in the final two minutes of regulation.

Brandeis senior Victoria Richardson (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) made two second-half saves to earn her first career solo shutout. The Judges have not allowed a goal since their season opener against MIT. Small finished with five saves in the losing effort. Jamie Joseph led Clark with three shots, including one on net.

Brandeis returns home to Gordon Field on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they host Babson for the 45th time, the most-played rivalry in Brandeis women's soccer history.
