ATLANTA, Ga. – Three goals were scored in a span of just under three minutes tonight as the visiting Brandeis University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 University Athletic Association (UAA) decision at Emory University tonight. With the loss, the Judges drop to 9-4-4 on the season, 2-2-1 in the UAA. Emory improves to 9-5-2, 2-2-1 UAA.

The first half was relatively uneventful. Emory outshot Brandeis, 11-6, but Judge senior Greg Irwin (Passaic, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) saved three shots on goal, including a two-save stretch in the 16^th minute on Eagles Ethan Cohen and Will Tichy.

The second stanza provided the game's fireworks. Emory's Alejandro Gomez opened the scoring in the 59^th minute, when he took a failed clearance attempt and shot it past a leaping Irwin into the top right corner. It was his second goal of the season.

In the 62^nd minute, Brandeis senior back Dylan Hennessy (New York, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) equalized, blasting a shot from 20 yards out that deflected off an EU defender and past Eagle keeper Max Carlson. The goal was Hennessy's second of the campaign and sixth of his career.

Off the ensuing restart, Emory scored just 18 second later. The Eagles worked the ball around their defensive midfield then got it up to Nate Sampson. Sampson delivered a through-ball that released Corey Levine free on the keeper, and he lofted it over Irwin for his third goal of the campaign.

The Judges had a couple of corner kicks after falling behind again, but their best attempt to equalize again came in the 80^th minute, when a service from the left flank caught Carlson off his line, and senior Max Breiter (Lincoln, Mass./Lawrence Academy) headed it just wide of the near post.

Irwin made three saves in the losing effort. It was just the third time all season the Judges had allowed two goals in a game. Carlson picked up the win with six saves.

Brandeis returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. when they meet the University of Rochester in another UAA contest.
