Ryan Loutos of WashU Earns CoSIDA Academic First Team All-America Honors

From Washington University Athletics

Recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Ryan Loutos, was named a 2021 First-Team Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced on Tuesday.

This is the second time in his career that he has achieved Academic All-America status, having earned a second-team nod in 2019. In May, Loutos graduated with a degree in Computer Science, finishing with a 3.90 cumulative grade-point average (GPA).

Loutos – who recently signed a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals – had a stellar senior season for the Bears, helping lead them to the program's first-ever Division III World Series. WashU also tied the program-best 34 wins, finishing with a 34-6 overall record.

As a senior, Loutos appeared in 14 games, starting 13 of them. He finished 11-1 with a save and four complete games. His 11 wins on the season tied the program's single-season record, which has happened twice in 1983 and 2019.

The right-handed pitcher threw 94.2 innings and broke the program record for single-season strikeouts with 116. Loutos also recorded a 1.33 earned run average (ERA) on the season.

Loutos was named a D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings First-Team All-American as well as earning First-Team All-Central Region and All-UAA nods. He was also named UAA Pitcher of the Week four times.

On the career lists, Loutos ranks third with a 1.84 career ERA. He also ranks third in career strikeouts with 287, fifth in shutouts with three and 10th in innings pitched with 230.0.

This marks the 16th Academic All-America honor in WashU baseball history.
