From Washington University Athletics

Dennis Snep, former assistant football coach at Washington University in St. Louis, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7.

"Dennis Snep made a significant impact on the coaches and players he interacted with for over a decade at Washington University," said head football coach Aaron Keen. "His positive attitude and excitement for the game he loved were always present."

Snep worked with the football team from 2007-2018 as an assistant coach for six years before transitioning into a quality control advisor role. He primarily worked with the running backs and kickers and also served as a community outreach coordinator for The Jason Foundation, which is dedicated to youth suicide prevention.

"We are saddened by the passing of Dennis Snep. He was loved in the Washington University family and the St. Louis football community. He was a great teacher; more importantly he was beloved by players, coaches and parents," said assistant football coach Larry Kindbom. "His work with the Jason Foundation talking about the tough issues of teenage depression and suicide had an impact on St. Louis high schools. Our prayers are with his wife Marge and his family."

Before his stint at WashU, Snep spent 38 years as a football coach at the Belleville East and West High Schools in Belleville, Ill. He was inducted into the St. Louis Metropolitan Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2009.
