"This statement makes explicit and publicly acknowledges the commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion that has been a signature part of the history of the UAA from its beginning. One of the fundamental principles articulated by our presidents during the formative discussions that led to the founding of the UAA was a clear and strong commitment to providing equitable opportunities in intercollegiate athletics for both women and men," Rasmussen said. "That representative commitment has extended far beyond issues of gender. The UAA has benefited from the perspectives and contributions of women, men, people of color, and individuals of diverse gender identities who have served in senior leadership roles within the Association — including presidents, deans and vice presidents, athletic directors, and senior woman administrators."

"This statement reflects a shared commitment and understanding by each of our institutions that through this commitment to diversity and inclusion, we will enhance the excellence of each our universities," said Lisa Lynch, Brandeis University Provost and Maurice B. Hexter Professor of Social and Economic Policy.

The first day of the NCAA's campaign is "This is Who We Are," which explores student-athletes' core values and multiple identities.

"'This is Who We Are' underscores the collective values of our UAA member institutions and our conference—that is to be clear about our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the recruitment of our scholar-athletes, and coaching and administrative staffs; lead our respective campus efforts to ensure all members of our campus communities are welcomed and valued for who they are, and to strive to be models for other institutions and associations regarding these critically important values," said Lori White, Washington University Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
