From Washington University Athletics

Washington University in St. Louis Director of Athletics Anthony J. Azama announced two new additions to the Bear Family.

Chloe Booker and Gavin Porter will be officially joining the WashU men's and women's basketball programs through Team Impact, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing chronic illnesses through the power of team.

An official signing ceremony, as part of Team Impact's "Draft Day," is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 18, at 6:45 p.m. in the Lopata Room, located inside the Sumers Recreation Center on the Washington University Danforth Campus.

"Today is a special day for our women's basketball program. We are adding an extremely important teammate to our squad," said head women's basketball coach Randi Henderson. "Chloe is a fighter, tough as they come. She is bringing that fight along with a great big contagious smile to our program. Today, the WashU Bears got better. Thank you, Chloe, for committing to play for us."

Chloe and Gavin will be attending practices, games, team dinners, and events with the men's and women's basketball programs throughout the year.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Gavin to our team. Gavin has a tremendous energy, and truly embodies what it means to be a WashU Bear," expressed head men's basketball coach Pat Juckem. "We look forward to having Gavin in the stands this year, and are thankful for the opportunity to impact his life, as much as he has impacted ours."

Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with University athletic teams, forming lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes.

Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,900 children with more than 600 colleges and universities in 48 states, reaching over 55,000 participating student athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
