It marked the first time in Carnegie Mellon history that all six fall teams qualified for their respective NCAA Championships: men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball.

University of Chicago (eighth), Washington University (10th), and Emory University (15th) all finished the fall among the top-15 schools. The Bears placed sixth in women's cross country and reached the national quarterfinals in women's soccer. The Eagles sent four of its five fall teams to NCAA play with women's soccer advancing to the round of 16.

The UAA leads all Division III conferences in the top-15 with four institutions. NYU (24th), Case Western Reserve University (33rd), University of Rochester (51st) and Brandeis University (113th) are also ranked. NYU reached the Final Four in the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship, while CWRU advanced to the national title game in women's soccer.
