Mitch Prendergast Named the First D3hoops.com All-American in CWRU Men's Program History

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University graduate student Mitch Prendergast was named to the D3hoops.com 2023 Men's Basketball All-America Second Team, becoming the first player in program history to earn an All-America honor from the organization.

Prendergast became the third Spartan all-time to earn All-America honors from any organization, joining former Spartans Ed Saxon, who was named to the Basketball Gazette All-America Second Team and an NABC All-America Honorable Mention in 1989-90, and Dane McLoughlin, who was a DIII News All-America Honorable Mention in 2014-15.

The All-America honor is the latest in a slew of postseason awards for Prendergast, who was selected to the D3hoops.com and NABC All-Region 7 First Team earlier in the week. He was named the University Athletic Association Most Valuable Player, becoming the first player in program history to receive the honor, and earned a spot on the All-UAA First Team for the second-straight year.

Prendergast was also named to the roster for the NABC All-Star Game, scoring 10 points in a 116-112 loss for Team Hixon on Saturday.

Prendergast finished the season third among all UAA players with 17.2 points per game overall and second among conference players with 17.1 points per contest in league play. He finished the regular season shooting 44.3% overall and 36.5% from three-point range. Prendergast added 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest. He scored 20 or more points seven times during the year, including a season-high 29 points against both Emory and WashU in back-to-back CWRU wins. He was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and the UAA Athlete of the Week after scoring 14 points and collecting 10 rebounds against Rochester and the 29-point showing against Emory.

This is the 26th year that D3hoops.com has selected and published an All-America team. All-Americans are chosen by D3hoops.com staff in consultation with All-Region voting results from players nominated for All-Region.
