Five UAA Teams Selected to NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship

Case Western Reserve University received its first automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship are will be joined in the field by at-large recipients Emory University, NYU, University of Rochester, and Washington University.

The NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Committee announced today the field of 64 teams for the 2023 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball championship. 

The championship provides for a 64-team tournament. Automatic qualification (AQ) is granted to 44 conference champions, which form “Pool A.” The remaining 20 teams are selected from those teams in conferences with automatic bids that did not win their conference’s AQ and the remaining Pool B institutions (Pool C). The teams are geographically paired, whenever possible. 

Sixteen sites will host four teams for first- and second-round competition Friday-Saturday, March 3-4. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites March 10-11. Winners of the four sectional championship games will advance to the semi-finals and finals March 16 and 18. All games, except the semi-finals and finals, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The semi-finals and finals will be held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

CWRU will host regional play and face Arcadia University on Friday at 6:20 p.m. ET on Friday. The other matchup in Cleveland will pit University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Wabash College. The winners face off Saturday at 6:20 p.m.

Emory is making its 10th consecutive appearance in the tournament and will play at Hampden-Sydney College on Friday at 7:20 p.m. ET. The winner of that game will play the winner of the matchup between Farmingdale State University and second-ranked Randolph-Macon College Saturday at 7:20.

NYU will travel to University of Mount Union and face Lancaster Bible College on Friday at 5:10 p.m. ET. The hosts will face Anderson University in the opening round. The winners will meet Saturday at 7:40 p.m.

Rochester will play Nichols College At Middlebury College Friday at 3:40 p.m. ET. Worcester State University faces the host Panthers in the other first round matchup. Thw winners play Saturday at 6:10 p.m.

WashU plays host in regional play, opening against Coe College on Friday at 6:55 CT. North Park University and Sewanee: University of the South meet in the other contest on Friday. The winners meet at 6:55 CST on Saturday.
