The New York University men's fencing team hosted defending NCAA National Champions, Columbia University, at the Rosenthal Pavilion in NYU's Kimmel Center on Thursday, November 14.

In their first dual meet of the season, the Violets fell to the Lions 19-8.

In both foil and epee the Violets were edged 6-3. They were also defeated 7-2 in sabre. 

Ian Adler (Malvern, PA/Great Valley), Sam Bekker (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) and Lucas Hsing (Briarcliff Manor, NY/The Masters School) each won one epee bout.

In foil, both Eric Zobel (Seattle, WA/Lakeside) and Gabriel Mejia-Ruiz (Plantation, FL/College Academy at Broward County) produced a victory, while Zachary Schindler (Cambridge, MA/Buckingham Browne & Nichols) and Brian Kim (Upper Saddle River, NJ/Dwight-Englewood) each won a bout in sabre.

"It was a tough match against a great opponent," said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "But, we fought hard and had some good performances."
