On Friday, Organisak took a walk across the 18th green at The Kittansett Club carrying a silver jug. A prize for winning the 112th Massachusetts Amateur golf title.

As Matt Organisak drove to The Kittansett Club in Marion each day this past week, he blared out music played by singer Lou Reed from the sound system of his gray Honda accord.

One of the songs the former Lincoln-Sudbury golf standout listened to was “Walk on the Wild Side” from Reed’s “Transformer” album from 1973.

“I listened to it every morning,” Organisak said.

It’s an ode to one of his favorite musicians.

And on Friday, Organisak took a walk across the 18th green at The Kittansett Club carrying a silver jug. A prize for winning the 112th Massachusetts Amateur golf title.

It was a wild way for Organisak to conclude his first ever Massachusetts Golf Amateur championship.

“Take a walk on the wild side is something I still live by,” Organisak said. “It’s one of my favorite songs. It’s a good motto I always thought.”

Organisak, 22, defeated Waltham’s Nick Maccario, 28, on Friday in a 36-hole championship match at the picturesque Cape Cod course.

After 18 holes on Friday, the match was tied. Organisak won four of the next six holes and never trailed after that. On the 18th (36th) green, Organisak was one up and made the green in three shots. Maccario conceded the match after missing his par putt as Organisak won 2-up and was awarded the aforementioned silver prize.

“It’s truly special to be able to say that my name will be on this trophy,” Organisak said. “This was my first tournament since everything went down and since the beginning of March. ... I can never get my senior spring back. ... But this is certainly a good feeling.”

Good vibes was a theme for Organisak – and his caddies Ryan Rogers and Jack Sutherland – this past week. While walking around Kittansett, Organisak would hum the tune of “Perfect Day” from the same Reed album mentioned above.

“I’m a big singer, and I don’t have a great singing voice, but I do like to sing and hum a lot out on the golf course,” Organisak said. “I got myself into singing that song. Walking around Kittansett was about as perfect a day you can get. That was a perfect day. That was as perfect as they come.

“That’s how the mind works, and if you tell yourself perfect day sometimes it ends up being a perfect day.”

This tournament was the Sudbury resident’s first appearance in a Mass. Amateur championship final.

“I came down here, I played on Monday, I played pretty well and I went home and I packed a big bag with a lot of clothes. And I said, ‘I hope, I hope I got to use all these,’” Organisak said on Friday. “And I don’t have any clean clothes left so that’s a good thing. I just had a good feeling. You know if you come in and you believe in yourself, you never know.”

The recent graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, where Organisak finished No. 2 for scoring average for the program, will look to use this victory as springboard and turn professional soon. He’s already preparing for a tournament this week.

“My plan is to turn professional at some point and start playing some pro events and see how that goes,” he said. “But with COVID-19 and everything, the goal is just to stay safe. You know right now you just got to take things day by day and get out there and practice and if you do that you never know what (will happen).”

What happened this past week was Matt Organisak took a walk on the wild side at The Kittansett Club. He has a fancy jug to prove so.
