NYU Makes Cut at NCAA Championship

NYU Makes Cut at NCAA Championship

From NYU Athletics

New York University's men's golf team completed the second round of NCAA championship play on Wednesday at the Mission Inn Resort and Club's Las Colinas course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

The Violets carded a 308 as a team on the par-71, 6,792-yard Las Colinas course, falling to 13th place out of 43 teams after sitting in a tie for eighth after round one yesterday.

NYU still made the cut, however, as the tournament is now reduced to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.

Charles Hsieh was NYU's low scorer, shooting a 75 while his two-day total of 152 has him tied for 48th individually.

The junior was even after the first nine holes, earning a birdie on the fifth, but struggled on the back nine leading to his four-over finish.

Robbie Keyes and Joseph Burlison, the Violets' top-two golfers of the tournament thus far, both carded a 76 in round two. Keyes' total of 149 after two rounds is tied for 26th while Burlison, who sits at 150 overall, is tied for 31st.

Chris Lee shot 81 today and remains in the top 100 (t-96th, 158). Also playing for NYU is Kevin Kim who posted a 90 in round two as his two-day total of 173 is tied for 194th.

There are 221 golfers competing in the Championship.

Methodist University pulled ahead to take first place after two rounds with a low score of 581. Fellow UAA program Carnegie Mellon is in second, shooting 587 thus far.

NYU's two-round total of 609 trails two schools tied for 11th by just one stroke. The Violets lead 14th-place Christopher Newport by three.
