Yellowjackets Complete Play in 10th Place at Tough Tartan Invitational

A tough field and a tough course saw the University of Rochester golf team finish in 10th place at the Carnegie Mellon University Tartan Invitational on Tuesday at Laurel Valley Golf Club.
 
The Yellowjackets were consistent throughout the 54-hole event, carding scores of 315 and 316 on Monday's opening day before finishing with their best round of the event, 314, on Tuesday. UR's overall score of 945 for the tournament put it in 10th in the field of 13 teams.
 
Of the 13 schools competing, ten were among the top-20 in the latest Division III Coaches Poll, while three of the top four teams in the nation battled it out for the team title. #3 Emory edged host and #4 Carnegie Mellon by two strokes, 905 to 907, with top-ranked Methodist finishing in third at 912.
 
Two of UR's golfers recorded scores under 80 in the final round, with senior Nishant Datta leading the way with a 1-over par round of 73. He was 1-under for his front nine holes and improved his standing on the individual leaderboard by 22 positions over the final day, best in the field. He finished in a tie for 28th place overall with a score of 236.
 
Lewis Raboy was the top ranking Yellowjacket for the event, shooting a 78 (+6) in his final round to finish tied for 15th individually with a score of 233. His card on Tuesday featured a team-best four birdies, including three in a four-hole stretch during the middle of the round.
 
Tom Liu battled the 7,151 yard course to a score of 80 on Tuesday and ended the tournament in a tie for 49th place. His three-round score was 243.
 
UR's fourth scoring golfer was Kerry Wang who carded an 83 in the final round. He finished in 37th place overall with a score of 329 for the 54-hole event. His round featured two birdies in his opening four holes and an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole.
 
Gary Pan rounded out the Yellowjacket lineup, shooting a final round score of 85. He finished the event in 63rd place overall.
