Carnegie Mellon Wins First UAA Men's Golf Championship Since 2009

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team won its second ever University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 decision over Emory University in the match play championship format. The two-day championship was played at Harbor Hills Country Club in Lady Lake, Florida.

  • Graduate student Henry Scavone defeated Tony Li 1-up
  • Junior Brian Xu lost to Nicholas Nautiyal 4&3
  • Freshman Andrew Wang lost to Jackson Klutznick 2&1
  • Freshman David Zhang defeated Brian Hanson 1-up
  • Sophomore Justin Chan defeated Michael Burry 2&1

Notes:

  • Scavone was named the UAA Most Valuable Player at the 2023 UAA Championship event. He won both his matches during the championships.
  • Chan was named to the All-Tournament team after he won both of his matches during the championships.
  • The Tartans other UAA Championship came in 2009. This is the first for the Cardinal and Gray since changing the championship format to match play in 2016.
