Emory Captures Share of Shoals Intercollegiate Title

The Emory University men's golf team earned a share of the Shoals Intercollegiate title on Tuesday as they tied for first with Methodist University. The 54-hole tournament was played on the 7,060-yard, par-72 Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals course in Florence, Alabama.

The No. 1 ranked Eagles posted a five-under par 283 in the final round of competition to bring their two day total to 862 (293-286-283). Emory finished the tournament with the most pars knocking in 176 across the three rounds. The Eagles tied with No. 3 Methodist who also carded a 862 (293-286-283). No. 4 Carnegie Mellon rounded out the podium with a 54-hole total of 878 (295-290-293). 

Junior Jackson Klutznick paced the Eagles for the entirety of the tournament as he carded a 213 (72-69-72) which placed him in a tie for third. Sophomore Tony Li finished a stroke back (73-70-71) from Klutznick to land in fifth place as he also led the field on par-5 holes hitting six-under par on those holes. Sophomore Michael Burry hit a par on 41 of a possible 54 holes to lead the field in total pars leading him to a score of 215 (76-68-71) which landed him in sole possession of sixth place. Freshman Brian Hanson had the best final round for the Eagles notching a three-under par 69 to bring his 54-hole total to 220 (76-75-69) which placed him in a tie for 11th. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was sophomore Nicholas Nautiyal who finished tied for 46th with a two-day total of 231 (76-76-79). 

Emory's B-team was also in competition and at tournament's end were in 11th place after logging a total of 918 (312-311-295). Sophomore Josh Qian led the Eagles second team in scoring with a 226 (77-77-72) to finish in 29th place.
