The University of Rochester men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half and put in a stout defensive effort to post its first shutout of the season, winning 4-0 over visiting Keuka College on Saturday at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
First-year Will Fallona scored a two goals, while EliJose Araujo and Santi Ponce Ocampo capitalized on set piece chances with goals for the Yellowjackets who move to 3-0 on the season.
Graduate student Andrew Moglianesi produced two assists on corner kicks while Jeremiah Anandarajah and Joe Anderson also tallied since helpers in the victory.
Goalkeeper Santino Lupica-Tondo made three saves, including a penalty kick, in 70 minutes of action, while Logan Kinajil-Moran finished off the clean sheet without having to make a save.
The Yellowjackets had a great chance just over a minute into the game, with Avi Lamba just missing at the far post after a cross from teammate Ashton Prescott.
Four minutes later, Prescott had an opportunity of his own and ripped a shot from the edge of the box that sailed just wide.
Rochester got on the board in the 17th minute, connecting on the third of three straight corner kicks. Moglianesi sent a cross to the far post where Araujo headed it into the net from a tight angle. Keuka keeper Corey Cangemi deflected the ball, but was unable to keep it out of the goal.
At the 25-minute mark, defender Matt Cosentino applied offensive pressure for the Yellowjackets, one-timing a drop pass from Gavin Fischer just over the crossbar.
Another defender pressing forward led to UR's second goal in the 38th minute. This time Anandarajah broke free through the Wolves defense and sent a cross pass into the box where Fallona did a spin move and connected with a low shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
Early in the second half, Keuka earned a penalty kick after the Yellowjackets committed a foul in the box, but Lupica-Tondo kept the Wolves off the board, making a big save of Owen Thorpe. The ensuing corner kick, was thwarted by the Yellowjackets defense.
The next ten minutes featured Keuka's best offensive chances of the game the rest of the game, with shots by Thorpe and Brenden Moquin getting saved by UR's senior keeper.
Ponce Ocampo regained the momentum for Rochester, sneaking his header goal inside the near post on a corner kick in the 63rd minute, boosting the Yellowjackets lead to 3-0.
Just over ten minutes later, Fallona connected on a diving header goal, flying though the crease, smacking the right wing pass from Joe Anderson past a diving Cangemi for the final score of the contest.
The Yellowjackets dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Wolves 19-3. UR also took 10 of the games 11 corner kicks.
