Konrad Kozlowski, a 2019 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and a four-year member of the WashU men's tennis team was recently awarded the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Kozlowski is the 18th person in WashU history and the second men's tennis player to receive this honor. He graduated from WashU with a degree in Biology and next month will begin his education at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine.
"I would first like to thank Coach Follmer, Dr. Phillip Bayly and the entire WUSTL athletic department for their nomination and support of my candidacy for this prestigious award," said Kozlowski. "I'm very proud to receive this award, as I feel that it represents the culmination of my four-year journey as a WashU student-athlete, a journey which has been instrumental in my personal development and path to becoming a physician. It also feels great that all those early 6 a.m. indoor practices and late-night study sessions at Olin Library will end up helping me fund the costs of an expensive medical education."
In his time with the WashU men's tennis team, Kozlowski was a two-time ITA Doubles All-American, earning the honor as both a junior and a senior. For three-straight years, Kozlowski participated in doubles competition at the Division III NCAA Championships, advancing to the quarterfinals as a junior and the semifinals as a senior. Kozlowski is a two-time all-UAA selection, notching both first-team and honorable mention honors. As a junior, he was also named to the UAA All-Tournament Team at No. 1 doubles. He ended his career among the program's best, ranking eighth all-time in doubles wins with 83 and 18th overall with 115 career victories.
As a team, the Bears posted a four-year record of 72-28 and reached the NCAA quarterfinal round each of those years.
Academically, Kozlowski was a three-time Academic All-UAA honoree, including a UAA President's Scholar-Athlete as a junior. He was also a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete.
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
Each year, the NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships. These $10,000 scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
Scholarships are awarded three times per year, corresponding to each sport season – fall, winter and spring. For each season, there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women to use in an accredited graduate program.
The NCAA created the Postgraduate Scholarship in 1964 to promote and encourage graduate education. Athletic and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership are evaluated during the application process.
