Daniel Li and Abhi Ramireddy of WashU Take Down No. 1 Seed Chicago on Saturday, Advance to NCAA Division III Semifinals

From Washington University Athletics

Daniel Li and Abhi Ramireddy of the Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team came away with a massive win on Saturday in the NCAA individual doubles championship quarterfinals against No. 1 seed Chicago in Orlando.

The Bears won the match in straight sets, winning 6-3, 7-6 (2) against Derek Hsieh & Christian Alshon of UC to punch their ticket to the national semifinals.

Earlier this week on Wednesday, Chicago claimed the team NCAA national title.

Just like yesterday, Li/Ramireddy continued their aggressive play at the net with an emphasis on holding serve and posting a high percentage of first serves.

In total, WashU converted on 85 percent of their first serve attempts on Saturday and won 72 percent of its first serve points.

Li and Ramireddy were also efficient again on break point attempts, as they broke the Maroons on serve four times throughout the day.

It was a back-and-forth second set, but the Bears came up clutch saving four break point attempts and then pulled away 7-2 in the tiebreaker to seal the win.

The duo will return to action tomorrow in the national semifinals at noon against Emory with a spot to the national championship on the line.
