WashU Men's Tennis Defeats Sewanee to Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals

The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis defeated No. 12 Sewanee 5-2 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the Elite 8.

This marks the 18th trip to the Elite 8 under Head Coach Roger Follmer and the 19th time in program history.

The team of Colin Scruggs and Pato Garcia Muriel lost to Peyton Erck and Noah Holsclaw 8-1 at third doubles to go down a match. Phuc Huynh and Abhi Ramireddy then fell to Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund 8-3 at first doubles to give Sewanee a 2-0 lead.
 
Gaurav Singh and Scott Yamamoto made it a 2-1 game with an 8-6 win over Gil Weston and Talman Ramsey at second doubles.
 
Ramireddy made it an even 2-2 match with a win at second singles, defeating Erck 6-1, 6-3. Scruggs then gave the Bears a 3-2 edge with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Holsclaw at fourth singles.
 
Huynh battled to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Theron at first singles, putting the Bears within one match of advancing.
 
Eric Kuo secured the match – for the second day in a row – at fifth singles, beating Weston 6-4, 6-4.
