Spartans Split Four Matches at 2020 Si Ostrach Meet

The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team hosted the 2020 Si Ostrach Meet at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans split their four dual matches, defeating Kent State University-Tuscarawas 46-12 and Adrian College 27-27 on a tiebreaker but losing to Washington & Jefferson College 32-20 and Waynesburg University 26-18. Though CWRU and Adrian tied on points, the Spartans prevailed by accumulating the greater number of points for falls, defaults, forfeits, or disqualifications, 4-3.

The Spartans are now 4-8 in dual matches this season.

Competing at 165 pounds, senior Isaac Collier went 4-0 on the day, including three pins and a major decision. Collier pinned Raheem Clemons of W&J in 4:11, Ethan Garcia of Adrian in 4:41, and Chad Van Pelt of KSU-Tuscarawas in 30 seconds. He now has eight pins this season and 25 pins in his career.

Three Spartan wrestlers—first-year Mitchell Arch, sophomore Duncan Clayton, and sophomore Adam Kates—recorded three wins on the day.

Arch went 3-1, recording two pins at 157 pounds to increase his team-leading total to 17. Arch pinned the Presidents' Zach Schrott in 1:17 and the Bulldogs' Colton Kanyo in 41 seconds. He also earned a 15-4 major decision over the Golden Eagles.

Primarily competing at 133 pounds, Clayton went 3-1. He pinned the Golden Eagles' Elliot Dean in 55 seconds and recorded a 19-3 technical fall victory, the first of his career, in the match against W&J.

Kates also finished the day with a 3-1 record, winning by decision 18-16 over Waynesburg at 125 pounds and picking up two wins over KSU-Tuscarawas and Waynesburg.

Junior Brian Kent, senior Andrew Hoover, and sophomore Grant Robinson each picked up two wins for CWRU.

Kent went 2-0 at 197 pounds. Against W&J, he recorded a dramatic 4-2 decision in the second sudden victory period, and he won by decision against Waynesburg, 6-2. Hoover finished 2-1, prevailing via technical fall at 149 pounds against Waynesburg for his first technical fall of the season. Robinson also finished 2-1, winning by pin over Devan Welsh from KSU-Tuscarawas in 47 seconds.
