The New York University wrestling team split its two matches at a tri-meet held at Bridgewater State University in Brodgewater, Massachusetts, on Saturday.

The #23-ranked Violets were edged by #16 United States Coast Guard Academy 20-13, but bounced back to trounce host Bridgewater 50-3.   

Taisei Kurachi (125) gave NYU an early lead against Coast Guard, but the Bears bounced back to win the next four bouts.

A sudden victory by Cooper Pontelandolfo (165) and a major decision by Jason Geyer (174) brought NYU back within 13-10.

The Violets could not sustain the momentum, however, dropping the next two bouts before heavyweight Evan Anderson captured the final tilt.

"You can't expect to win tight dual matches when we are giving up last-second bonus points and not getting them ourselves," said Associate Head Coach Corey Luce. "But, these are the reasons we schedule tough opponents. We want these matchups, and our guys will be better prepared for the postseason."

NYU dominated the second match, winning nine of the 10 bouts, four of them by fall and one by a tech fall to improve its dual meet record this season to 10-4.
