UChicago Hosts 2023 UAA Wrestling Championship on Saturday

For the first time since 2018, University of Chicago will host the UAA Wrestling Championship on Saturday. The Maroons were scheduled to host the 2021 championship, which was canceled due to COVID-19.

NYU captured its second consecutive (2020 and 2022) and 12th overall UAA title last year in Cleveland, which marked the first year without head-to-head team matches.

The competition shall be a full round robin with a maximum of six wrestlers in the 10 weight classes with the exception that wrestlers from the same team will not compete against each other. There will be four rounds. 

In each round, the weight classes with five or six entries will go first in traditional weight class order, followed by the weight classes with three and four entries in traditional weight class order. In the event of a weight class with only two competitors, their match will be held at the start of the fourth round.

In every weight class, each wrestler shall be designated a place finish based on match results.
The following individual places and score values will be used in determining a team’s score:
1st – 10 points; 2nd – 7 points; 3rd – 4 points; 4th – 2 points; 5th – 1 point.
Team bonus points will also be awarded to the winning competitor’s team for the following match results:
Major Decision – 1 point; Technical Fall – 1.5 points; Fall or forfeit – 2 points.

Individual Champions shall be decided by the win-loss records in that day’s competition. In the case of ties between individuals in the number of match wins in a weight class, the places shall be decided by a vote among head coaches.
