The University of Chicago wrestling team claimed fourth place out of 18 teams at Elmhurst University's Al Hanke Invitational on Saturday.
The No. 13-ranked Maroons placed five wrestlers on the podium and scored 89.5 points. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was the team champion with 193.5 points.
Cole Fibranz and Darian Estevez led the way with runner-up finishes in their respective weight classes. Fibranz pinned three opponents en route to a 4-1 record at 285 pounds while Estevez was 3-1 with a technical fall. The two Maroons only lost by a combined three points in their championship matches.
Drew Vlasnik posted the most wins on the day for UChicago with a 5-1 mark. He ended up taking third at 157 pounds, capping his day with a pin of his North Central College foe.
At 141 pounds, Vincent Menozzi placed fourth in the bracket. His 4-2 record included a sudden-victory win over University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Brendan Connolly placed sixth at 149 pounds as he went 3-3 with one technical fall. Ryan Fleck was a standout at 149 pounds as well – the senior posted a 4-1 record with two pins. He won the consolation final with a first-period pin of Eureka College.
