Three CWRU Women’s Soccer Players Earn D3Soccer.com All-America Honors

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior defender Merry Meyer, graduate student forward Camryn Hartman, and senior midfielder Anika Washburn were each named All-Americans by D3Soccer.com.

Meyer was named to the First Team as a defender, Hartman was named to the Second Team as a forward, and Washburn was named to the Third Team as a midfielder.

Meyer, Hartman, and Washburn earn the fourth, fifth, and sixth D3Soccer.com All-America honors in program history. Washburn was named an All-American for the third time in her career (2021 First Team, 2019 Second Team) with former Spartan Greta Lazzara named to the Third Team in 2021.

Last year, Meyer became one of five Spartans in program history to be named to a United Soccer Coaches All-America Team, earning Third Team honors following the season. She was also named to the All-University Athletic Association First Team, United Soccer Coaches All-Region VII First Team, Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association All-Ohio First Team, and OCSA Academic All-Ohio First Team. Meyer became just the second player in program history to earn United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America honors, earning Second Team recognition. Overall, Meyer had three goals and three assists during the 2022 season. She was a key member of the Case Western Reserve defense that allowed just 0.68 goals per match and recorded 11 shutouts. For her career, she is a two-time All-UAA honoree (Second Team, 2019) and two-time All-Region honoree (Second Team, 2019). This is her first D3Soccer.com All-America honor.

Hartman, playing in her first season at Case Western Reserve after four seasons with the University of Cincinnati, earned her first career All-America, College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, All-Region, and All-UAA honors in 2022. She led the CWRU offensive attack with a team-high 14 goals and 38 points and tied for the team lead with 10 assists. Hartman was the second player in program history to be named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team, following Washburn in 2021. Her 14 goals and 38 points are second most in a single season in program history and her 10 assists tie a single season program record. She earned her first career OCSA All-Ohio and D3Soccer.com All-America honors.

Washburn, a three-time D3Soccer.com All-American and two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American, earned her third All-Region First Team honors after previous appearances on the team in 2019 and 2021. Last year, she was named to the All-UAA First Team for the third consecutive season, becoming the first player in program history to be named to three All-UAA First Teams. In 14 matches last season, including 10 starts, she scored four goals and added six assists. For her career, she holds the program records for goals (35), points (91), and game-winning goals (12), the last of which she set during the 2022 season. She is tied for the program career record with 21 assists. Washburn is also a four-time CSC Academic All-America honoree, the first Case Western Reserve University student-athlete to be named to four Academic All-America Teams in a single sport, three-time All-Ohio honoree, and two-time Academic All-Ohio honoree.

CWRU finished 2022 as the national runner-up with a 20-1-1 overall record, completing one of the most successful seasons for a Spartan team in any sport. The national second place finish matches the best finish by any Case Western Reserve team in school history and is the best finish in school history for any Spartan women's team. The team set a program record for wins in a season, set the program record for longest winning streak at 13, and finished 6-0-1 in UAA play, en route to winning the first conference championship in team history. Earlier this year, the Spartans were named the Greater Cleveland Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year at the 23rd Greater Cleveland Sports Awards.
