NYU Women's Soccer to Host Mitchell and Friends Awareness Game on Sunday

From NYU Athletics

New York University's women's soccer team will host a Mitchell and Friends Foundation Awareness Game on Sunday when the Violets take on WashU at 1:30 p.m. at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, New York.

The team has been working to raise awareness for Mitchell Syndrome throughout the 2022 season. Head coach Michele Canning's nephew, Cole, was diagnosed with Mitchell Syndrome in November 2021. Cole, who is six years old, is one of 16 people in the world with the disease. Mitchell Syndrome causes loss of mobility and motor control, hearing and vision problems and cognitive decline

There are currently no active treatments for Mitchell Syndrome, but a research fund has been established at WashU in an effort to change that.

Cole will be in attendance at the game, taking part in a halftime presentation. Informational materials will be distributed to fans and there will be an American Sign Language interpreter on site as well.
