Rochester Rolls to a 4-0 Victory at Alfred

From University of Rochester Athletics

Led by Mia McGinty's three assists, tying the single-game program record, University of Rochester women's soccer defeated the Alfred University Saxons, 4-0 on Thursday evening at Yunevich Stadium.

The home Saxons' looked to strike first early, but Lina Young's 8th-minute shot went off the crossbar, keeping Rochester and Alfred level.

Claire Grover then picked up UR's first shot in the 10th minute sending one wide, while Megan Pung forced Alfred's Kiani Barnard-Pratt to make her first of four saves in the 12th minute, setting up a Rochester corner.

Mia McGinty would send the corner in for UR, and Emma Bates would quickly make it 1-0 with her first score of the year, giving Rochester the early lead.

Rochester would continue to press and win possession through much of the first half, outshooting the Saxons, 9-2 in the opening period.

However, UR would put just one of those shots in the back of the net, and head into halftime up just one score.

But early in the second half, the Yellowjackets would quickly double their lead, with Sarah Martin following a pair of shots that were saved and wide with another just a few minutes later, again off a McGinty assist, into the back of the net.

Martin's 54th-minute goal made it 2-0, and less than three minutes later, McGinty found another 'Jacket for a score, this time assisting Grover for the seniors' fourth goal in three games, to make it 3-0 UR with just over 33 minutes to play.

From there, Rochester would continue to pepper Barnard-Pratt with shots, outshooting the Saxons, 13-1 in the second half and 22-3 over the entire match.

Bates forced another save in the 58th minute, while Katharina Probst sent one wide off a Sydney Holmes' corner in the 78th minute.

Then in the 84th minute, Probst fired one off the post before finishing things off on Cece Vassallo's assist for her first career score to make it a 4-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets would add four more shots before the final buzzer sounded, as they walked away with another shutout and a 4-0 victory.

Rochester moves to 3-0 on the year with the win, while the Saxons remain winless at 0-3.

With her trio of assists, McGinty tied the program record for assists in a single game, matching her output from last season against Brockport exactly 365 days later. Bates, Grover, Martin and Probst all scored for UR, while Probst tallied a team-high five shots.

Defensively, Grace Kuropatkin got the start and didn't face a shot on goal in 64:14, while Gabby Sabatier made one save over the final 25:46.
