Yellowjackets Score Three First-Half Goals in Shutout Win over Keuka

From University of Rochester Athletics

No. 15 University of Rochester women's soccer scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes and never looked back, putting together a dominant performance en route to a 4-0 win over the Keuka College Wolves on Wednesday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Just 1:16 into the first half, Claire Grover got the Yellowjackets on the scoreboard, taking a thru ball from Olivia Geno into the box and spinning around a defender before plunging the ball into the back of the net to give Rochester an early 1-0 lead with her shot just inside the left post.

Gabi Chioccola then put another shot on goal as Sam Pelcher made the first of her five saves and nine total on the day for Keuka, before Grover picked up her second to double the 'Jackets' lead.

After the Wolves were unable to clear it and turned the ball over inside their defensive third, Grover quickly found some space and turned on the jets, burying her second goal of the afternoon into the back of the net to give UR a 2-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets would continue to send a plethora of shots at Keuka's keepers, outshooting the Wolves, 13-1 in the first and 24-2 for the game. Rochester also dominated possession for much of the first half and the game, holding a 65-35 percent advantage in possession.

Megan Pung and Mia McGinty looked to add to Rochester's lead over the next few minutes, with their shots sailing wide and being blocked, while Pelcher made another save in the 16th minute on Sarah Martin's shot.

Keuka picked up their lone shot of the first half off a 16th-minute corner kick, but Parker Lahey's shot sailed wide and UR remained in front, 2-0.

Syd Coggins and Jordyn Kowalkowski sent two more shots at Pelcher in the 29th minute, before Pelcher was forced to make another save on Maya Bravo's shot in the 35th minute.

Just over two minutes later though, Coggins sent one past Pelcher for UR's third score, as Sydney Holmes' cross found Coggins, who finished the score to extend the 'Jackets' lead to 3-0.

Rochester would go into the halftime break up 3-0, and quickly found their fourth goal just under two minutes into the second half.

On Pung's cross, Grover headed the bouncing ball over to Katharina Probst, who scored her second goal of the season, knocking it through to make it a 4-0 UR lead.

The Yellowjackets would add 10 more shots in the period, outshooting Keuka 11-1 in the second half, while UR's defense held Keuka without a shot on goal for the entire game.

Grace Kuropatkin played the first 77 minutes in goal for UR, before Kennedy Stark saw her first action in net, finishing off the final 12:48 for Rochester.

The 'Jackets would also force Keuka's keepers to make four more second-half saves, with Emma Bates, Chioccola, Grover and Martin all putting shots on goal over the final 30 before the final buzzer.

#15 Rochester moves to 4-0-1 with the win, while Keuka drops to 0-4-1 on the year.

Grover led UR with three shots, scoring two goals, while seven Yellowjackets each added two more.
