Liz Korn Takes Fourth in 400 Meters as Judges Place Sixth at UAA Championship

The Brandeis University indoor track and field teams competed at the 2023 University Athletic Association outdoor championships at the University of Chicago this weekend. The Judges had 14 total scoring performances on the second day of action. The men and women both placed sixth, with 36.50 points and 29 points respectively.

SCORING PERFORMERS

  • The best Brandeis women's performance came from Junior Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont) in the 400-meter run. She finished fourth with an impressive time of 59.05 seconds. This set a personal record for her. Korn now has the top three performances for Brandeis this season, and this holds the seventh best time in the UAA this season. Korn finished 1.13 seconds out of All-UAA position.
  • Junior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles finals with a time of 15.24. Though she fell one slot from yesterday, Campbell improved her time by .04 seconds.
  • First-year Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn. / Lawrence Academy) placed fifth in the triple jump, with a distance of 10.88 meters. This was the second-best score for Brandeis this season.
  • In the 4x400 relay, Korn, senior Yahni Lapa (West Newton, Mass. / Newton North), senior Devin Hiltunen (Quincy, MA / North Quincy), and sophomore Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos High School) finished fifth with a time of 4:06.20. This was the team's fastest time this season.
  • The 4x100 relay team of Campbell, Nugent, junior Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y. / Bronx H.S. of Science), and Hiltunen finished sixth with a time of 50.84 seconds.
  • In the high jump, sophomore Kirsten Man (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) took eighth place, with a distance of 1.47 meters. Junior Olivia Zarzycki (Belmont, Mass. / Belmont) also had 1.47 meters, but she finished ninth based on the number of misses in the earlier rounds.
