Emory Competes in USC Indoor Open

The Emory University Women's Track and Field Team sent a group of nine athletes to Columbia, South Carolina Saturday to participate in the University of South Carolina Open. The Eagles competed against 45 teams at the meet that did not feature team scoring.

Nine Eagles ventured to Columbia for the day. Isabel Saridakis gave Emory a top-five finish by getting over the bar when it was set at 3.67 to find herself in fourth-place out of 21 pole vaulters. She was joined by Ticia King who ended up in 17th-place with a mark of 3.17. Also in the field, freshman Hope Jackson made her career debut in the shotput and came up with a distance of 10.76m and took 18th-place out of 34 participants.

On the track, sophomore Hannah Lansberry and junior Sofia Beltran had season-best efforts. Lansberry ran her 400m Dash in 59.45, which was good enough for 31st-place out of 64 racers. Beltran made it across the line after 10.12 in the 60m Hurdles, giving her 28th-place out of 31 runners, but freshman Claire Evans had a couple of steps on her, as she did it in 9.58 and went home with 25th-place. Beltran also appeared in the 200m Dash, making her season debut in the event and ending with a 29.15. Sophomore Lauren Cunlid had an effort of 2:31.65 in the 800m Run to take 35th-place out of 57. The only distance runner of the day was Grace Formichella, who finished her 1 Mile after 5:28.66 and got 23rd out of 50.
