NYU Returns to Action at Last Chance Meet

The New York University women's track & field team competed at the Last Chance Meet, which took place at the Armory in Manhattan on Friday, February 21.

Senior Evelyn Nkanga (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) led the way for the Violets, finishing second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.62m. Another senior, Helen Joyner (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee), performed well in both the shot put and weight throw, placing seventh in both (10.54m, 14.04m).

Freshman Lindsey Nelson (Foxborough, MA/Foxborough) ran a personal-best in the 3,000m, crossing the line in 10:53.55, which was good for eighth place.

The Violets closed out the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400m relay. The squad of freshman Patrycja Lis (New York, NY/Townsend Harris ) and sophomores Natalie Rule (Orange County, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic), Gabrielle Stankosh (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George), and Elle Pourasgari (Woodland Hills, CA/El Camino Real) ran 4:24.17.

There was no team scoring at the meet, which included schools from Divisions I, II, and III.

"We were led today by very solid performances in the field events," said NYU Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "Evelyn Nkanga (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) was the top collegiate finisher in the women's triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.62m. Helen Joyner (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) set a personal best in the women's weight throw with her mark of 14.04m and Madi Richardson (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) also set a season's best mark of 3.10m. I'm very excited to see how these women will perform next week at the UAA Championships."
