Rochester Runs to 18th Place at Cross Country National Championship

From University of Rochester Athletics

The University of Rochester women's cross country team closed out another strong season in 2019 on Saturday, placing 18th of 32 teams at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

The 18th place finish is the best team result since 2015 when UR finished in 14th place.  On Saturday, Rochester accumulated 440 team points, ranking as the third team from the Atlantic Region to cross the finish, behind SUNY Geneseo (10th) and RPI (13th).  The meet champion was Johns Hopkins with 125 points, while UAA rival Washington-St. Louis finished runner-up (138 points).

Ximena Reyes Torres was the top Yellowjacket finisher for the first time this season, crossing the finish in 22:45.3 over the 6-kilometer course.  That time was a career-best for the junior, shaving over 10 seconds off her prior best time from the UAA Championships in early November.

Senior teammate Jordan Hurlbut finished right after her, ending just one-tenth of a second behind in 84th place.

Kelly Reese completed her UR cross country career by running in 107th place in 22:56.5, with fellow senior Julia Myers completing the course in 23:06.5 (138th).  Rochester's fifth finisher was junior Danielle Bartolotta who ended with a time of 23:40.1 winding up in 209th place.

The Yellowjacket displacers were first-year Rachel Dennis (265th, 24:36.6) and junior Elisabeth Rott (276th, 25:03.5).

Four of the UR runners were making their second straight NCAA appearance, as Reese, Reyes Torres, Hurlbut and Myers all were apart of Rochester's 21st place team in 2018.  Overall, this year was Rochester's fifth all-time appearance at the Division III Championships as a team.
