CWRU Takes Team Title at Marv Frye Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team won the Marv Frye Invitational in Delaware, Ohio, on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday at the George Gauthier Track. The Spartan men's team finished first out of nine teams with 193 points.

In the mile run, sophomore runners Nate Gilbert and Hans Holst were the first two to cross the line, with Gilbert winning the event in 4:18.37 and Holst placing second in 4:23.62. In the 400-meter hurdles, first-year hurdler/sprinter Josh Bates finished first in 56.16 seconds, and junior sprinter/hurdler Yusuf Shaaban was the runner-up with a time of 57.60 seconds. Sophomore runners Luke Kishna and Victor Nash went one-two in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as Kishna finished in 9:46.87 and Nash finished in 10:24.72. Both sophomore vaulter Quaylen Lamarre and first-year vaulter Anthony DeCarlo cleared 4.45 meters in the pole vault, the highest mark in the event, but Lamarre placed first by clearing the mark in fewer attempts.

Holst added a third place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.86, trailing senior runner Will Dehmler, who won the race in 1:56.57. Dehmler, Bates, junior sprinter Brett Callow, and senior sprinter/hurdler Pierce Boucher were the top finishing 4x400-meter relay, completing the event in 3:23.43. Bates and Callow teamed with senior sprinter/jumper Keith Cartwright and first-year sprinter/thrower JD Weaver for a third place finish in the 4x100-meter relay in 43.12 seconds. Callow added a third place finish in the 100-meter dash, completing the sprint in 11.00 seconds.

A pair of Spartans added runner-up finishes, with first-year hurdler/sprinter Bryce Hodge placing second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.26 seconds and senior jumper Kenny Suen bounding 12.60 meters in the triple jump to take second place.
