The New York University softball team split its two games on Tuesday in Clermont, Florida.

The Violets (3-3) posted a 2-1 comeback victory over North Central College (3-1)  in the first game, but dropped a 10-4 decision to Farmingdale State College (2-1) in the second. 

In the first game, NYU's Marina Egbert was masterful on the mound, allowing only one earned run in seven innings while striking out seven.

However, that performance almost resulted in a loss as the Violets trailed 1-0 heading into the final frame.

But, with one out, consecutive singles by Caroline Hofmann, Lauren Kong and Brianna Roman loaded the bases. Sophia Leon then also singled and each runner advanced a base. However, when Roman rounded second a bit too far, Cardinal catcher Mary Lescovek tried to pick her off but the throw was late and Kong was able to scamper home with the winning run.

Leon also added another single and drew a walk in the contest.   

In the second game, the Violets scored all of their runs in the first inning. After the first three batters walked, a pair of Hannah's (Lee and Becker) followed with a two-run single and double, respectively, to plate all the NYU runs. 

Farmingdale fought back with four runs in the third to tie the game, then a single run in fourth to take the lead. The Rams secured the victory with five runs in the top of the seventh.   

Lee, Becker, Leon, and Elisabeth Smith each recorded two hits for NYU.

"After two years of not playing, you're going to have your ups and downs," said Head Coach Now-Allah James. "But, we did some good things, especially in mounting that comeback in the first game. It was a little choppy, but I'm seeing improvement."
