The Washington University in St. Louis softball team completed the sweep of Brandeis in the UAA opening series, winning Sunday's game 5-3. The Bears are now 16-4 overall with a 4-0 mark in conference play.

After three scoreless innings, Brandeis put the first run on the board in the top of the fourth inning as Amidori Anderson drilled a homer over the centerfield fence, putting the Judges up 1-0.

WashU came out in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.

Tami Wong led off with a walk and Ashley Kennedy singled up the middle, moving Wong to third. Wong tied things up 1-1 as she scored on a passed ball. Then, Natalia Pilpil hit a double to left center, scoring Emily Talkow, who came in to run for Kennedy.

Pilpil moved up to third on a Payton Irwin sac fly and scored as Nicole Hay singled through the right side.

Following a Judges' pitching change, Kirsten Drabek drew a walk and both runners moved up a base as Olivia Craycraft grounded out to first. Katie Gould sent a double to left center, scoring Hay to give the Bears the three-run edge.

In the top of the fifth inning, Brandeis cut the Bears' lead to just one run, scoring two.

Jamie Pippin led off with a walk, prompting a pitching change for the Bears as Holly Stoner came in for Jordan Rossi.

Lily Medici laid down a bunt and beat out the throw to move Pippin into scoring position. Both runners advanced a base on an Anna Kolb sacrifice bunt and Pippin scored as Marley Felder singled to right field. Melissa Rothenberg drove in Medicii with a sac fly to left, cutting into the Bears' lead, 4-3.

WashU scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With two outs, Craycraft drew a walk and then stole second. Gould followed with another walk and Maggie Baumstark drove in Craycraft with a single through the right side.

Defensively, the Bears forced three quick Brandeis outs in the top of the seventh to complete the series sweep.

Kennedy finished 2-for-3 on the day while Gould went 1-for-1 with one RBI and two walks. Drabek finished 1-for-2 with a walk and Hay went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
