Emory Takes Series Conclusion from NYU, 1-0

From Emory University Athletics

The Emory University softball team defeated the NYU Violets 1-0 in extra innings on Sunday afternoon in Staten Island, New York.

The Eagles now sit 15-15 on the season and 5-6 in conference play while the Violets move to 17-11, 6-6 in UAA action.

Freshman Isabel Cohen held the Violets scoreless and ended with three strikeouts and just four walks through her nine innings of work.

NYU did not allow a hit through five innings, but senior Tyler Miller singled in the top of the sixth to give the Eagles their first hit of the day. Two hit batters gave the Eagles a chance with bases loaded, but Emory was unable to capitalize on the position.

Once again, the game was held scoreless until the top of the ninth. Freshman Mackenzie Duford singled to start the inning. Freshman Estefani Albert singled to right field followed by another single from Cohen to load the bases before Miller brought in Duford with a sacrifice fly to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Cohen recorded three straight outs in the bottom half of the ninth to secure the win for Emory.
