WashU Sweeps Carnegie Mellon in Saturday UAA Play

The Washington University in St. Louis softball team swept Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon in UAA action. The Bears are now 12-15 on the season with a 4-7 mark in conference play. The Bears lead CMU 2-1 in the series.
 
Game 1: WashU 2, CMU 1
The Tartans put a run on the board first in the top of the first inning. Kiera Boucher drew a one-out walk and stole second. Piper Johnson reached base on an error to move Boucher to third and Boucher stole home for the 1-0 lead.
 
WashU took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, which held until the end of the game.
 
Erin Reardon led off with a single up the middle and stole second. Ashley Kennedy hit a one-out single through the left side. Sydney Schneider, who came on to run for Kenney stole second and Maggie Baumstark drew a walk to load the bases. Payton Irwin drilled a double through the left side, scoring Reardon and Schneider for the lead.
 
Reardon went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Kennedy also finished 2-for-3. Baumstark went 1-for-2 with a walk and Irwin went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
 
Jordan Rossi notched the win in the circle to improve to 4-3 with three hits and just one earned run to go with three strikeouts.
 
Game 2: WashU 4, CMU 3
The Bears struck first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning.
 
With one out, Irwin singled through the left side and Tami Wong followed with another single through the left side. Alex Rubin reached on a throwing error, scoring Irwin for the first run of the game. Olivia Craycraft singled and advanced to second on the throw, scoring Wong. Katie Gould grounded out, scoring Rubin and giving WashU a 3-0 edge.
 
Carnegie Mellon put up a run in the top of the third inning. Erika Heffernen hit a lead-off single to short and stole second. Boucher bunted to the catcher, beating out the throw and advanced to second on a throwing error to score Heffernen and make it a 3-1 game.
 
The Tartans tied things up in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Koko Sagae singled to right center and scored on a Libby Eichberger triple to left. Johnson doubled to left center, scoring Sagae for the 3-3 game.
 
WashU took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Baumstark hit a one-out single to left and scored on a Wong double to center for the 4-3 lead.
 
Baumstark went 2-for-3 with one run while Wong finished 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Craycraft was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Gould finished 1-for-3 with one RBI.
 
Holly Stoner earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with nine hits, two earned runs, three strikeouts and no walks.
