NYU Wins at CWRU to Maintain Two-Game UAA Lead

The New York University women's basketball team, ranked #7 in the nation by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and #9 by D3hoops.com, continued its dominating play with a wire-to-wire 75-63 University Athletic Association (UAA) victory over Case Western University on Friday in Cleveland , Ohio.

The Violets (18-1, 9-1) scored the first six points of the game and never looked back in defeating the Spartans (7-14, 2-8) on their home court.

After Case Western pulled to within one at 8-7, NYU scored the next nine points and went on to lead by six, 25-19, after the first quarter.

The NYU advantage grew to as many as 16 points in the second quarter and the Violets went on to lead 45-31 at halftime.

The Spartans were able to trim their deficit to seven points twice in the third quarter, but the Violets recaptured a double-digit lead, 62-51, at the conclusion of the session.

Case Western again pulled within seven early in the final quarter. But, a 12-2 NYU run ensued and the Violets grabbed a game-high 17-point lead, 75-58, on Brooklyn Shelton's layup with 1:17 remaining.

"At this point in the season, it feels great to get a road win in the UAA," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "We started off really well and had some spectacular bench play today. We are looking forward to getting back out there on Sunday and work to complete the weekend sweep."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

- Three Violets scored in double-figures, led by Jordan Janowski's 17 points. Belle Pellechia added 13 points and Natalie Bruns had 11.

-  Pellechia and Jenny Walker shared team-high honors with nine rebounds. 

- Janowski and Pellecchia each recorded five assists, with Shelton adding four.
