NYU Women's Basketball Assistant Coach Annie Barrett Selected for NCAA Coaches Academy

NYU Women's Basketball Assistant Coach Annie Barrett Selected for NCAA Coaches Academy

From NYU Athletics

New York University women's assistant basketball coach, Annie Barrett, was one of 46 people selected for the NCAA Coaches Academy, which took place in May at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Academy offers an impactful educational opportunity to build connections and develop leadership acumen in order to pursue career aspirations within basketball coaching.

The initiative provides current, full-time intercollegiate men's and women's basketball coaches at NCAA member institutions an opportunity to expand their knowledge and insight into the world of intercollegiate basketball coaching. Only current full-time assistant coaches of men's or women's basketball at NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III member institutions were eligible.

In Barrett's first year back as an assistant coach at her alma mater in 2022-23, the Violets went 25-3, advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III Championship and captured the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.

At the Academy, selected participants were trained in a variety of areas that encourage effective coaching at the intercollegiate level, with a focus on the holistic well-being and development of the student-athlete.

The overall theme for this year's program was "The Backboard Basics" - the art of mastering the fundamentals to becoming a great coach.

"I had an incredible time learning from fellow coaches and all of the great speakers," Barrett said. "The array of topics covered were diverse, informative and holistic, ranging from a disc assessment to building your brand and learning how to best utilize social media. The experience was invaluable, and I am excited to share all that I learned. I appreciate (Director of Athletics) Stuart Robinson and (Head Coach) Meg Barber for encouraging me to take part in this Academy and for all of their support!"

Barrett, who also had an outstanding basketball career at NYU, led NCAA Division III with 7.5 assists in 2019-20 and set NYU records for single-season assists (202) and career assists (435).
